MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Uber has rolled out features over the past few months with the goal of improving their drivers’ overall experience. Today, the ride-hailing company added one more of these features.

Called Rider Identification, Uber introduced the additional feature to ensure control and peace of mind, helping to keep all driver-partners safe before, during, and after every trip.

“We believe that technology can help us lean into safety in new ways for our drivers, riders and for the hundreds of cities we passionately serve,” said in a statement by Uber provided to media.

Rider Identification will now require new riders without an electronic payment method on file to verify their Facebook account as an alternative way to verify their identity. This feature is particularly relevant for cash-based trips.

“This builds on our rider and driver guidelines, star ratings, and feedback systems in the Uber app that help ensure the safety of our community,” Uber said.

“The LTFRB is supportive of Uber’s initiative to launch Rider Identification,” said LTFRB Board Member Aileen Lizada. “This is one of the outcomes of the Safety and Security Technical Working Group meetings conducted by the LTFRB together with the TNCs, TNVS leaders, PNP-HPG, MMDA, and Red Cross. This will hopefully provide an additional layer of security for our TNVS drivers who provide service to the riding public.”
