MANILA, Philippines -- An American sex convict ordered arrested in Texas for jumping bail and fleeing his country was arrested recently in Isulan town Sultan Kudarat by the Bureau of Immigration.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Wayne Rilay, 54, was nabbed at his home on March 14 following a request from the US embassy in Manila.
Morente said the district court in Denton, Texas issued a warrant for Riley’s arrest on January 13 on learning he had fled the US. He had previously been convicted of sexually assaulting a 45-year old woman.
Aside from this, he was also indicted for causing bodily injury to a family member; larceny; violating a protective order by assaulting and stalking his former victim; disturbance of public peace; harassment; and drunk driving, among others.
“Undoubtedly, his presence here poses a risk to public safety. We should deport him immediately or he might prey on our women and children,” Morente said.
As a registered sex offender, Riley is required to periodically appear in person to local law enforcement authorities in the US so they can keep track of his residence and activities.
Riley is considered an undocumented alien who can be subjected to summary deportation since the US State Department has revoked his passport.
