(UPDATE - 9:42 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo was blamed as the one behind upsetting the stability of the nine month-old Duterte administration because she couldn't wait to become chief executive.
The accusation was made by administration allies after Robredo sent a six-minute video to the UN, issuing a strong rebuke against President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs campaign and the worsening extra-judicial killings in the country. This was followed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano’s filing of an impeachment complaint against the chief executive.

It was UN that asked video from VP
But Robredo’s camp on Friday denied that the Vice President voluntarily sent the video, saying it was the organizers from the UN who had asked her to give them a message about extra-judicial killings and the war on drugs.
Hiningan siya ng mensahe ng organizers ng United Nations Side Session at the Comission on Narcotic Drugs Annual Meeting,” said Georgina Hernandez, the spokesperson of the Vice President in a television interview on Friday.
“Mayroon ho silang regular na meeting na ginaganap ngayon sa Vienna at isa ho sa kanilang mga tema at isa sa mga sesyon na pinag-uusapan ay tungkol sa mga extrajudicial killings in the name of the drug war at dahil dito ay hiningian ng pahayag ang ating Pangalawang Pangulo,” added Hernandez.
According to Robredo’s spokesperson, the Vice President had to intention to destabilize the administration but only shared what she knew about the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.
Only Magdalo behind impeach raps
Also, Robredo’s camp denied that the Vice President had a hand in the impeachment complaint filed against Duterte.
She said that as what Alejano told media, only the Magdalo group was behind the complaint.
What Leni said was factual
On claims that Robredo had brought down the whole country with her video message to the UN and what she did could be tantamount to betrayal of public trust, which is an impeachable offense, Hernandez said that what Vice President told the internal body were all facts that had already been mentioned before by other parties.
Earlier, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez criticized Robredo, claiming that it was possible that she was behind destabilization efforts because she couldn’t want to replace Duterte in Malacanang.
On Friday, Alvarez said he would lead moves to impeach Robredo.
The basis for the impeachment, Alvarez said, would be Robredo’s video sent to the UN, which the Speaker said was a betrayal of public trust.
Ano ang magiging epekto noon economically [This is the first time in my life I see a high official of the land badmouthing our country in the international community. What effect will this have economically]?” he said in a television interview.
