(UPDATED - 12:17 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines - The lifeless body of 44-year-old Alfredo M. Dimaano, vice president for academic services of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, was found by authorities Wednesday morning.

Radio dzBB quoted findings from the Marikina police that Dimaano died of seven stab wounds inside his rented apartment unit on Block 2 Lot 48 Diamond corner Sapphire Street in Marikit Subdivision, Concepcion Uno, Marikina.

Dimaano, who usually leaves for work early, did not emerge from his home when curious neighbors knocked at his door, prompting neighbors to report to barangay officials and police.

Police probers believe that Dimaano was already dead for some hours when his remains were found.

According to Marikina police chief, PSupt. Lorenzo Ulanday, a person of interest is being eyed, but follow-up operations were still ongoing.

Authorities are looking at possible work-related motives or robbery, among others, in the killing of Dimaano, who was from Surigao del Norte.

According to a blog by Princess Julia Jamasali, Dimaano graduated from Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business at the De La Salle University. He took his doctoral degree in business administration from the same school and taught as part-time assistant professor-lecturer at the DLSU.
