MANILA – (UPDATED W/ VIDEO) Mayor Joseph Estrada on Wednesday assured the family of slain biker Mark Vincent Geralde that justice will be served and the man who shot him dead in a traffic altercation Tuesday night will be caught and prosecuted.
Estrada also said the city government has extended help to Rocel Bondoc, 18, a sophomore college student hit by a stray bullet during the gunman's road rage.
She remains in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Mary Chiles Hospital after being hit in the spinal cord by the stray bullet.
Estrada said he personally knows Bondoc and in fact recommended her to the city-run Universidad de Manila (UDM).
“Rocel is one of our city scholars, a bright student and has a very bright future ahead. It pains me to see her in the hospital, wounded,” the mayor said, adding that he will do everything he can to help the student recover and resume her studies.
Bondoc is an orphan and lives with her grandmother in Quiapo, near the scene of the shooting.
“I have directed the MPD (Manila Police District) to see to it that the culprit is captured and brought to court to face charges. To the family of Mr. Geralde, our condolences. I assure you that justice will be given,” Estrada said.
